Jack Bowron

Jack Bowron, 86, passed away Sept. 10, 2015, at his home in Arizona after an extended illness. Jack was born July 19, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Wash., to Maurice and Myrtle Bowron. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1947. He attended Pacific Lutheran College in Parkland, Wash., on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1951 with a BA in education.
An accomplished trumpet player, Jack attended the Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C., before serving as a Navy bandsman on USS Oriskany during the Korean War.
In 1956 he began his career as an instrumental music teacher in the Seattle School District. A kind and caring educator, he was beloved by his students. He also played trumpet professionally in the Bob Elwood Quartet of Seattle for 10 years.
Jack married Eldfrid Viken in June 1957. They made several trips to Norway to visit relatives over the years.
After retiring in 1981 he remained active, hiking and bicycle riding. In 2005 he moved to Arizona. He was a member of American Legion Post 60 in Laughlin, Nev.
Jack is survived by his wife Eldfrid, son Mark of Laughlin, daughter Linda (Gary Strutz) of West Sacramento, Calif., brother Bill (Anna) Bowron of Mount Vernon, sister Marilyn Raefield of Edmonds, Wash., and several nieces and nephews.
