Joe M. Malle

Joe M. Malle, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Mt. Vernon on July 30, 2015, at 9:33 p.m., in the loving embrace of his wife of 30 years.
Joe was born June 9, 1926, in Valier, Ill. A proud and honored veteran, Joe served in the U.S. Army during World War ll and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 9233, and Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. He worked for the State of Illinois for 31 years as a meat inspector supervisor.
He married Judith A. (Lowery) Patton on Oct. 6, l984, and inherited two loving daughters who thought the world of him: Kimberly (Patton) Karch and husband Harold (Pody) of Evanston, and Heather (Patton) Watkins of Troy.
Joe adored his family and his dogs, working in the garden, volunteering his time for the local food bank, collecting any recipe he could get his hands on, meeting old friends for coffee at the crack of dawn, baking pies, telling stories, going to church, and always being the first one up and the first one to bed (usually with his dogs).
Per his wishes, he was cremated and a gathering of family and friends celebrated his memory at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
