Herbert John Witt

Herbert John Witt, 92, passed away on Sept. 26. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley. He is survived by his children Patricia Witt and John (Connie) Witt, grandchildren Kira (Eric) Cortese and Brian (Lori) Witt, and great-grandson Owen Herbert Witt. He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Portage Wis., and worked for the Milwaukee Road as a telegrapher. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the 721st Railroad Battalion in India from 1942 to 1945, part of the China-Burma-India theatre. He rejoined the Milwaukee Road as a station agent, and then joined the family electrical equipment sales business. He was a member of Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church, where he served with the “gray panthers” who maintained many aspects of the building. He served with Boy Scout Troop 118 and the Greater Milwaukee Boy Scout Council, and was a 32nd degree Mason and former Grand Master of Elmbrook Lodge, Wis.
