Arthur L. Willard

Arthur L. Willard, 91, formerly of Lewiston, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston. Born in Everett, Mass., on June 3, 1924, he was the son of John and Linnie Robbins Willard. When he was young, his family moved to Stonington, Maine. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. After the war, he moved to Lewiston and went to work as a hand sewer in the local shoe industry. On April 10, 1948, he married the former Jacqueline Martineau. Mrs. Willard passed away on May 10, 2013, after 65 years of marriage. When their children were young, they moved to Stonington for several years, where Arthur worked as a lobsterman and stone cutter. Survivors include a daughter, June Michaud of Lewiston, two stepdaughters, Linda Dorr of Lewiston and Francine Simard of Southington, Conn., a stepson, Roland Lepage of Lewiston, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
