Robert E. “Bob” Sidman, 83, of Millcreek, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Fairview Manor.
Bob was born in Corry, Pa., on February 3, 1933 a son of the late Wilbur and Agnes Smith Sidman.
He graduated from Strong Vincent High School and earned his associate's degree in civil engineering from Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal from April 1953 until March 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He traveled to the Soviet Union with an organization of public works professionals in 1991 to share his expertise in urban planning. He was a certified land surveyor for Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Bob worked for Millcreek Township as Zoning Code Administrator and Township Engineer, retiring in 1995 after 39 years of service.
He was a member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, American Legion Millcreek Post 0773 and Lakewood United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, reading, woodworking and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Sidman.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Violet (Gray) Sidman, who he married on Aug. 15, 1953, a daughter, Kathleen Sidman Thais of Waterford, Pa., a son, John R. “Jack” Sidman of Erie, and three granddaughters, Ashley Thais Eastman and Lindsey (Nicholas Rounds) Thais, both of Waterford, and Amanda Sidman of Erie. He is further survived by two great-grandchildren, Jackson Thais and Amelia Rounds, and many nieces and nephews.
Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
