Philip S., 87, of Mahwah, NJ, formerly of Canarsie, Brooklyn and Riverside, Calif., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 13, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Anita Weinstein. Devoted father of Steven Weinstein and his wife Linda of Fair Lawn, N.J., and Debra Gomberg and her husband Kenneth of New City, N.Y. Proud and cherished grandpa of Matthew and his wife Meital, Alex and his wife Leah, Samantha, Sari, Zachary, Rachel and Ashley. Phil, who did not have any siblings, considered his younger cousin, Mel Topf, as a little brother. He is also survived by his little grand dog, Teddy. In his youth, Philip grew up on a farm in Heightstown, N.J., attended a one-room schoolhouse and raised chickens, milked cows and rode horses. At 13, he moved back to the Kings Highway section of Brooklyn where he was bar mitzvahed. He later attended and graduated from Madison High School in Brooklyn where he met the love of his life, Anita, who was his wife for 62 years. Phil was a graduate of Long Island University where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. Phil was stationed in Riverside at March Air Force Base during the Korean War era. He and his late wife were married on May 19, 1951, on the base. When he moved back to Brooklyn, he went to work for his uncles' accounting firm, Irving Topf Company in New York City. He earned his CPA and continued on to form a partnership with his son, Steven, with the firm now known as Weinstein & Weinstein, P.C. in Teaneck, N.J. While living in Brooklyn, he was one of the founders of the Canarsie Jewish Center. Phil enjoyed his many travels with his wife and family around the world. In the last two years, he appreciated the warmth and caring support of his caregiver, Eric Matondo. Phil cherished his time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial donations in memory of Philip S. Weinstein may be made to the New Jersey Veterans Home, 1 Veterans Way, Paramus, NJ 07652 or to Holy Name Hospital, 718 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666. Arrangements are by Louis Suburban Chapel, Fair Lawn, NJ.
