A moment in time

How many times has the National Headquarters' city of Indianapolis hosted the National Convention?

This year’s convention will mark the third time. Although the Legion has been based in the Midwestern metropolis since the early 1920s, it wasn’t until 1990 that the organization's “hometown” hosted its national convention. The convention came “home” again in 1995.

Legion-history buffs can find historical information on all the host cities since 1919 on the Convention section of the national website. This section also provides up-to-date information on this year’s national convention, Aug. 24-30. Additionally, the Cities link also provides information on future conventions, as recommended by the National Convention Commission and approved by the National Executive Committee. Indianapolis will again be the site of the national convention in 2019, as the culmination of the Legion’s 100th-anniversary celebration.
