Of the three main membership organizations, two. The American Legion Auxiliary (http://www.alaforveterans.org/Members/Eligibility/), founded in 1919, is for female relatives of Legion-eligible veterans; Sons of The American Legion (http://www.legion.org/sons/about), founded in 1932, is for sons of veteran parents and grandparents. But Legion policy has always been that an individual can be part of one of these organizations and The American Legion itself (http://www.legion.org/join), if he or she ends up serving during wartime. There are no stated totals, but numerous individuals hold such dual membership.
