A moment in time

Who was elected president of Boys Nation the year Bill Clinton attended?

Richard J. Stratton. In 1963 – 50 years ago this month – the student from Leland, Ill., won representing the Federalist party. As tradition still holds, Stratton presented President John F. Kennedy with a T-shirt bearing the Boys Nation emblem.

Stratton obtained a bachelor’s and a law degree from Harvard, with a master’s from the London School of Economics and Political Science in between. He is an attorney based in San Francisco.

The Boys Nation Class of 1963 has held three reunions. As part of the 1998 reunion, ABC News visited the alums – including Clinton – for a two-hour tape called "Boys To Men." View a clip here. Stay tuned for more on the Class of 1963 on Legion.org.
