Correction: L.A. regional office wrongly named for claims problems

A flyer announcing Monday’s American Legion Town Hall Meeting in Hollywood incorrectly identified the Los Angeles VA Regional Office as a facility that the media had reported had a “large number of informal disability claims hidden in drawers.” The LA VA Regional Office was not the subject of such media reports or American Legion regional office reviews or site visits. That statement was in reference to a different California VA regional office.

American Legion Executive Director Verna Jones said the flyer, which was distributed to a few hundred recipients before the mistake was pointed out, is retracted. “We apologize for confusion this error may have caused in advance of Monday’s very enlightening town hall meeting at American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood, Calif.,” she said.

Local American Legion volunteers and national staff conducted the nearly two-hour event, attended by more than 100 veterans and their families, who discussed various issues with Los Angeles VA health care after national media recently reported that veterans were experiencing long waiting times for medical appointments.
