Department of Utah honored with social award

The American Legion Department of Utah has been awarded a Best of Salt Lake City Award, honoring it as the area's Outstanding Social Service Organization.

Each year, the Best of Salt Lake City Awards are given to businesses and organizations in the Salt Lake City area that have made the community a positive place to live through their business and social achievements. The awards focus specifically on small businesses and organizations, and the marketing and business practices that they have implemented to reach success in their repsective fields.

The Department of Utah is a previous recipient of the Social Service Organization award, having won it five times in a row from 2008-2012. Other previous winners include Zipcar in Seattle, the American Red Cross in Santa Monica, Calif., and Dyson in Chicago.

"(The award) shows that, though we are a small department, we are recognized for our service to the community and believe wholeheartedly that this is our first priority," said Greg Rowley, Department of Utah adjutant.

The "Best of" awards are given throughout cities and metropolitan areas in the country, recognizing business and organizations that make positive impacts on their communities and locales.
