Survey to help Legion website evolve

A new online survey aims to help The American Legion better understand its fast-growing audience of website users. Click here to answer a few quick questions about www.legion.org. A donation of $1 will be made to the Legion’s Legacy Scholarship Fund for each of the first 500 respondents. The scholarship fund helps the children of U.S. military personnel killed on duty since 9/11.

The American Legion’s website was overhauled and re-launched in November 2009. In 2010, traffic to the site steadily increased to more than 404,000 unique visitors in the month of August alone, including more than 104,000 unique visitors of The American Legion Baseball World Series streamed live online. The site has helped the Legion deliver news, information and other materials in a more efficient and timely manner than ever before. Promotion of Legion website content on Facebook and Twitter, along with The American Legion Online Update e-newsletter (now with nearly 500,000 subscribers a week), has kept traffic climbing.

“Now that we have an understanding of our primary audience – loyal and active members of The American Legion who want daily news about veterans, national security, Americanism and other issues close to the Legion’s heart – we want to make the site more appealing, interesting and useful to non-members, too,” said Dennis J. Henkemeyer of Minnesota, chairman of The American Legion Magazine Commission, which manages the site. “To do that, we need survey results both from regular site visitors and those who are not very familiar with it. We want to hear from members, non-members, friends and family. In order to take the site to the next level, we need our regular visitors to send the survey link to non-members and others, so we can get their feedback.”

The Magazine Division continues to make improvements and add new modules to the site, including all-new content to better promote the Legion Racing team, a module to highlight recipients through history of the National Commander’s Public Relations Award and an all-new design for the Burn Pit blog site, expected to appear online this month.
