OCW delivers $36,000 of items to wounded veterans

Over the past several weeks, The American Legion's Operation Comfort Warriors program has delivered $36,000 worth of comfort items and rehabilitation equipment to wounded veterans at four medical centers.

In November, OCW delivered recreational therapy equipment, such as a pool table, fishing poles and Samsung MP3 Players, to the Northport (N.Y.) VA Medical Center and the Salisbury (N.C.) VA Medical Center. On Dec. 14, American Legion National Commander Dale Barnett helped deliver nine adaptive-therapy bicycles to the Naval Medical Center San Diego. And on Dec. 17, comfort items and rehabilitation and art therapy program equipment was delivered to the St. Cloud (Minn.) VA Medical Center.

For 2015, OCW provided a total of $225,000 in grants to assist wounded veterans in their rehabilitation. One hundred percent of donations to OCW go toward the rehabilitation of wounded servicemembers recovering at VA medical centers or military medical facilities. OCW has provided equipment for adaptive sports therapy programs, basic kitchen supplies for soldiers’ rooms at military hospitals, recreational outings for the wounded veterans and their families, clothing, toiletries and more.
