The 2012 American Legion Legacy Run Home's National Commander's Ride departs Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451 in Sanborn, N.Y., on Tuesday morning, beginning a 742-mile journey that will include stops in Ohio and Michigan before ending in Indianapolis – the site of the 2012 American Legion National Convention – on Aug. 23. Registration and pre-run activities will take place today at Post 1451.
The Legacy Run generates money for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. To date, six Legacy Runs have netted more than $2.6 million for the fund, which provides college scholarships for the children of U.S. servicemembers killed on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001.

The National Commander's Ride is the first part of the Legacy Run Home. Opening ceremonies for the first American Legion Riders Expo get under way at 9 a.m. Aug. 24; the Expo continues through Aug. 25 and culminates with a Candlelight Celebration and Night Ride on Indianapolis Aug. 25. The expo will feature a planned series of American Legion Rider social events, such as range and classroom training, Rider program development courses, skills training and Motorcycle Safety Foundation exhibitions.
