Departments must have nominations for the Legion's annual employment awards mailed to national headquarters by Jan. 15. Departments that wish to nominate companies or organizations in their state for the Legion's National Economic Awards, which honor employers of veterans, must have the nomination forms and supporting documentation forwarded to national headquarters by the deadline for nominees to be considered.
The National Economic Awards are presented each year at the Legion's national convention to companies and organizations that do an exemplary job in hiring or employing veterans, disabled veterans and older workers. The awards are separated into six categories:
Posts that wish to nominate employers for any of the categories must fill out an official nomination form (available through the post's department) and send it to department headquarters by the department's posted due date. Supporting documentation and a narrative that is no longer than two pages usually must accompany the nomination form.
Departments must then select nominees for each category from the submissions and forward them onto national headquarters by Jan. 15.
Also due by Jan. 15 are nominations for the Legion's annual Homeless Veterans Outreach Award, which honors a department that has shown considerable involvement in homeless veterans initiatives. Departments who submit themselves for consideration should fill out an official nomination award (available by emailing email@example.com ), along with supporting narrative to demonstrate how the American Legion family within the department is working to end veteran homelessness.
