Florida post sponsors American Legion Softball Team

9-2 record is good enough for second place in tournament

Since 1925, The American Legion has sponsored youth baseball in our country's communities. In January 2009, Post 356 in Lynn Haven, Fla., extended that commitment to community service when it sponsored a local softball team made up of active-duty airmen and DoD employees or contractors.

The American Legion Softball Team approached Post 356 last winter, looking for sponsorship. Without hesitation, the post complied, providing the squad with the means to raise money to compete in tournaments and league games.

This summer, the Legion team participated in the USSSA Military World Softball Tournament at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach, Fla. The club played in the Varsity B division and posted a 9-2 record – good enough for second place. With 65 wins and 21 losses this year, the squad has won six tournaments and also has a half-dozen second-place finishes.
