Tour of Honor documentary takes off

Brothers Carlos and Kyle Plummer have been making movies together since about 2008. They said they started by producing backyard shorts and quickly realized their passion for film.
The Plummer brothers have made several documentaries highlighting the military. Their latest is about the local Honor Flight program, which flies World War II, Korea and Vietnam veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials built in their honor.
Older brother Kyle and dad Jeff took the flight with the veterans to the country's capital to film the documentary. Younger brother Carlos did most of the behind-the-scenes work, editing the hours of video his brother and dad came back from the trip with.
Carlos and Kyle's hard work paid off. Their documentary played at the Galaxy Theater in Atascadero, Calif., on August 2 to two sold-out showings of veterans, guardians, family and community supporters.
"It ended up turning out to be something that we had almost full creative freedom to basically mold the whole project," Kyle said, "but once we showed it to the people at Honor Flight, they loved it."
Some of the veterans who have participated in Honor Flights were at the documentary's big-screen debut.
"I think it's very important to get the story of the film out," World War II veteran Charles Rose said. "We've still got some World War II veterans out there who have not made the trip, and we need to get them back there."
The film is also an official selection of the DOCUTAH International Documentary Festival this fall in St. George, Utah. The festival takes place at Dixie State University Sept. 8-12.
