SPOTLIGHT ON 5th DISTRICT (OHIO) LEGIONNAIRE OF THE YEAR: Seneca County Veteran

Meet Michael Mike Nye, who served our country from September 8, 1970 - April 21, 1972, a Vietnam Vet - 1971 - 1972 Branch - 5th Army Wheel Vehicle Mechanic Spec 4 & acting Motor Sergeant. 47 Years with Edward Grine Post 354 in New Riegel served as Post Commander 1977, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2013 2014; 1st Vice 1985, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2007, 2012; 2nd Vice 1976, 1984, 1998, 2006, 2011; Post Historian 19 years; Publicity Officer 15 yrs; Post Trustee 1980. Works All Fish Frys, Gifts for Yanks, Honor Guard, All local Memorial & Veteran Day programs. 5th District Adjutant 4 yrs; Baseball Chairman 24 yrs.; Asst Sgt-at-Arms 4 yrs; Historian 1 yr. Seneca County Level Commander 2014, 2015; 1st Vice 2013, 2014; 2nd Vice 2012, 2013; Adjutant 2015-2019. SAL Squadron 354 Charter Member 33 yrs; Commander 2017-2018; 1st Vice 2016-2017; 2nd Vice 2015-2016, SAL Adviser 3 yrs.
Member of Knights of Columbus Fostoria Chapter 25 yrs; Active in youth sports programs in the community and district. He now holds this honor along with his father, Vince Nye, who was Legionnaire of the Year 1982. And the only Father Son recipient of this award in the history of the 5th District. Mike is married to Kathy for 26 years. They have 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mike worked and retired from Atlas Crankshaft for 34 years where he was a Machine Repairman. Mike Nye was nominated by Ronald "Ron" Clouse, Past Post 354 Commander, and Justin Elchert, Post 354 Commander. Award Presented by Chairman Dennis Teynor CONGRATULATIONS Mike!
