Legionnaires of the “Mighty” 20th District attend Veterans Day activities

SAN ANTONIO – (Nov. 14, 2022) – Numerous Legionnaires from posts within the “Mighty” 20th District attended events in honor of veterans in Military City USA, Nov. 10-12.

On Nov. 10, during the City Council “A session”, Legionnaires, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marines and other attendees witnessed a cake-cutting ceremony to honor the 247th Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Following the ceremony, members of Centennial Post 284 and Fred Brock Post 828 journeyed to the campus of Palo Alto College for its first in-person Veterans Day ceremony since November 2019.

A portion of the ceremony included the traditional U.S. Marine Corps cake-cutting ceremony in additional to each veteran receiving a Veterans Day memento.

During the ceremony, Post 284 Adjutant Eddie De La Garza presented a certificate of service to retired Marine Capt, and Post 284 Service Officer Vincent Bosquez, who serves as the college’s Veterans Affairs senior coordinator.

On Nov. 11. Legionnaires, veterans and active-duty service members attended the Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers Association’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony at San Antonio National Cemetery. The keynote speaker was Maj. Gen.
William Thigpen, commanding general of U.S. Army South.

To conclude the activities, members attended and participated in the 21st Annual Veterans Day Parade hosted by the U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association, Nov. 12.

The parade began at 4th and Alamo streets and ended at San Saba Street. A Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps competition was also held in front of the Tobin Center.

The community came out to celebrate and honor all veterans and thanked them for their sacrifice and service to the country.
