The 67U20 MOS (Chinook maintenance/crew) allowed me to have the best of both worlds: maintaining the best rotary-winged flying machine ever invented and also to be part of the aircrew who flew with her. My crew had many interesting adventures while flying in Vietnam, and not all the time was as serious as war can be.
Typically we flew at 1,500-2,000 ft. However, one day our pilots decided it would be much cooler at 10,000 ft. It was at this altitude that I was manning the ramp area and pulled out a box of General Mills Bugle snacks. The gunner, who was a snack food junkie, probably wanted a few but also had his camera handy. He took this shot, and a few months later it ended up on the General Mills annual financial and news issue front cover.
