Cherokee Co., Ala., Armed Forces Event

The Cherokee Co. Alabama American Legion Post 62 would like to share our Armed Forces Day event. Post 62 co-hosted a full day of events on May 16, to include a parade of vehicles, and BBQ cookout served under three large tents in an open field at McCords crossroads in a rural area of Cherokee County. Several hundred meals were prepared and served, and was free to all veterans. Patriotic music was performed by a local FHA high school group and a local string band "The Baileys." In attendance was a 94-year-old World War II veteran, a past department Legion commander, incoming department commander, department adjutant and local post commander, among others. Veterans from four counties were in attendance, including some from Georgia.
