Ronald F. Conley served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1966. He was an Air Policeman at Lockborne Air Force Base in Columbus Ohio, Anderson Air Force Base in Guam and he served in the Strategic Air Command.
Ron has been a member of The Pennsylvania American Legion since 1967 when he joined Castle Shannon Post 490 in Castle Shannon, PA. He founded Scott Township Post 290 in 1972 and is currently a member there where he served as Post Commander for 4 years and Post Adjutant for 22 years. He served as District Commander in 1980-1982. On the County level, he served as Commander in 1979-1980.
Ron currently serves as President of the Pennsylvania American Legion Housing for Homeless Veterans Corp., Inc., which he founded in 1988 and currently operates six (6) homes in Pennsylvania. He served as State Commander in 1987-1988 and National Commander in 2002-2003. He served on Advisory Boards to the following: the late Senator John Heinz, Senator Rick Santorum, former Congressman Doug Walgren, and Allegheny County Commissioners (8 years.) Former Pennsylvania Governors Thornburg and Casey appointed him to the Vietnam Herbicidal Commission. Ron was the recipient of the Pennsylvania American Legion Distinguished Service Award and Veterans Affairs Meritorious Service Awards. He received the Visionary Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his stand on eye surgery in a Veterans Administration Hospital.
He has been an active member of Steamfitters Local 449 for over 42 years. He is now retired. Ron serves as Director of Allegheny County Veterans Affairs. He is a graduate of Allegheny County Community College with an Associate Degree in Construction Management. He serves on the Military Affairs Council of Western PA and The World War II Memorial Committee of Allegheny County.
Ron has been appointed by Governor Randell to serve as a member of the State Southwest Veterans Home advisory board. Ron is also a member of the Knights of Equity, ANAVICUS, The Catholic War Veterans, and SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church. He is married to the former Barbara Lou Dilgen with five children, who have blessed them with 11 grandchildren.
