SHELBY, N.C. – Midland, Michigan scored three runs on a costly fourth-inning error by Jacksonville, Florida's Trent Brown, to earn a 6-3 first-round victory at the 2014 American Legion World Series at Keeter Stadium on Thursday.

Midland (48-6) had already taken a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning when Adam Fitzgibbon hit a routine single to centerfield. Brown, however, let the ball get through his legs, and the speedy Fitzgibbon circled the bases behind Derrek Clyde to score two runs on the three-base error.

That was enough offense to seal the win. Jacksonville (38-6-3) managed just two runs and five hits in the affair. Midland finished the night with 12 hits.

Jacksonville faces Brooklawn, N.J., at 5 p.m. on Friday. Midland enjoys a day off before meeting Brooklawn on Saturday at 8 p.m.
