Question:

I retired from active duty in 2008 and have the MGIB but don’t anticipate using it. Is it possible to get on board with the post 9/11 GI Bill and transfer it to my children? – Michael

Answer:

JJ retired from the reserves in early 2009 and would love to transfer the benefits he accrued during his mobilization and deployment to Afghanistan to his kids. However, you had to be an active duty (or selected reserve) member on Aug. 1, 2009 in order to be eligible to transfer the benefits.
