Question:

I received an advertisement in the mail about recent congressional legislation which provides benefits for seniors Is there some truth about recent legislation favorable to seniors, and if so, who at USAA should I contact for more information? – Tim

Answer:

As my dad used to say, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” If there was “silver bullet” legislation that allowed you to avoid probate, double your CD rates, and eliminate estate and income taxes, it would be all over the news and you’d be hearing about it from a lot more sources than a direct-mail campaign. It sounds to me as if someone is trying to pitch everything from a revocable living trust to tax-deferred annuities in a single advertisement. I would recommend you contact the USAA Financial Advice Center for up-to-date advice on everything from investments to the impact of any recent legislation. Thanks for asking that question. Good luck, and stay skeptical.
