Health Care Center debuts on website

Veterans seeking the latest information on health care available to them now have a spot on The American Legion's website to turn to for that information. The Health Care Center features breaking news on Department of Veterans Affairs' health care, a step-by-step guide on how to enroll in the VA health-care system, and information on conditions such as traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress, military sexual trauma, and polytrauma.

The site also contains a link to the Legion's System Worth Saving page, which explains the mission of the System Worth Saving program and provides information on the task force members. Also included on the page is a map that shows the different System Worth Saving visits this year and feedback from some VA patients on the care they receive. Late in the visitation cycle, Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation staff began collecting information on VA patients; as the visits begin next year, patient interviews will be collected from each visit and loaded onto the map.

I am a disabled Vietnam Era veteran and was represented by the Disabled American Veterans because I was evaluated by the VA unfairly and most of my service connected injuries were not listed. I did receive a medical discharge. Because of this representation no other veterans organization will represent me since another organization did previously. Also, there is a divider placed in my VA record which the VA says they are no longer allowed to look below since it was looked at previously. I am a Lifetime member of DAV and Vietnam Veterans of America and have also been a Legion member for 23 years. It is clearly stated under this divider all injuries incurred resulting in an 18 month hospital stay and ultimate discharge 2 years after a 6 year reenlistment in hopes of making the military my career.
