First Convention and Gavel and Block Thursday, September 24, 2009
Used to preside over the original National Convention of The American Legion, held in Minneapolis. On Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the Armistice, Henry Lindsley, Chairman of the National Executive Committee, opened the proceedings. After being elected as The American Legion's first national commander, Franklin D'Olier guided the remainder of that formational meeting.
