“The mission of the GI Film Festival is simple – to celebrate the successes and sacrifices of the American Armed Forces through the medium of film,” said GI Film Festival President Brandon Millett. “From the American Revolution through the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, our men and women in uniform have given life and limb in defense of freedom. They deserve our respect and our undying gratitude. And that is exactly what we plan to show them this Memorial Day weekend.”
The GI Film Festival’s Hollywood Advisory Committee includes Academy Award winning Actor Ernest Borgnine (From Here to Eternity, McHale’s Navy), Actor Chuck Norris (Delta Force, Missing in Action), Academy Award nominated Director John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn), Director Screenwriter Ron Maxwell (Gettysburg, Gods and Generals), Director John Dahl (The Great Raid), and Dr. Ted Baehr, publisher of Movieguide. Participate from home. Legionnaires do not need to attend the festival to participate in The American Legion’s Best War Movie poll. Legionnaires are urged to vote for any film that they believe best exemplifies the spirit of the U.S. fighting men and women. The movie can be from any war era, and should exemplify the honorable nature of military service. Votes will be accepted until May 7, with the winner announced at the G.I. Film Festival. Results will also be published in a future issue of The American Legion Magazine and posted at www.legion.org.
To vote, send the title of your pick for Best War Movie Ever to:

I would like to reply to the article by Jerry Johnson, hired to work at Walter Reed Hospital by the American Legion, in the recent magazine dated Sept 2007. I, as many others were appalled by the conditions revealed at Walter Reed Hospital.
Most people discribe contract workers as "dirty contractors" for being there and making all the big bucks, but the thing to remember is "read the contract." Mr Johnson should not blame the contractors until he has the facts regarding change orders and extra costs to a contract. Many times a change order can be lost in time and desk drawers unless you have a "government" employee who is willing to follow up on the paperwork. It is very hard to find such a person.
I know first hand from seeing a milatary hospital that I would not subject my husband or son to the conditions described at Walter Reed. I would have been the one screaming down the halls to have them moved to a better place.
Lastly, has Mr. Johnson read the contract??? He may feel different about the situation once he does.
Thank you,

I have sent an email to President Bush and others. I served in SAC command in the Air Force during the Viet war. I was arming and working on the B-52 boomer. I told Bush that all of our military should get respect. Even with the war with Iraq we have not closed down the military bases that protect us from nuclar war. Also we have many troops serving the troops overseas.Everyone serving us should get respect. Every base in the U.S. is a target for a nuclar war.
Just because I worked on the B-52 nuclar armed boomer should not remove me from help at the VA. This is the 21st. centry and we must look at the whole world not just Iraq. I am old now but I served my country.

I read articles in recent legion magazine about veterans being denied hearing benefits,in WW2 I served as foward observer in 155 howitzer battalion in the luzon campaign with the 6 th Infantry artillery division, when sent by the VA care Md who indicated I was entitled to a C&P claim for numerous conditions, the moron at the VA Miami asked if I heard bells of which I dint he refused the claim while the VA has provided hearing aids for severe loss of hearing due to artillery firing,I get humming and buzzing sounds, I wish the legion would inquire who and where do they find these idiots who refuse claims and why the back log,I am 83 years old and will be gone before they ever handle my claim, thanks for my service what phony patriotic nonsense we hear.
