I am a member of the American Legion and I could not have said it much better myself. I agree with the main comments on enforcing illegal immigration laws. They are there for a reason.

Nicely worded. It's appropiate for the Legion to continually 'push' our elected reps to protect our homeland and secure our borders.

Well said, the system has been fractured for quite some time now. Time for Americans to defend Americans, lets concentrate on aid to our own insted of aid to other nations. Illegal imigration is not only constly to Americans, it is downright dangerous!!!!!

This is what is on most Americans minds but it is being muddled by the major media. With stories that are designed to make the public feel 'guilty' for not allowing illegal, yes ILLEGAL foreigners into our nation. The major media, however, does not bring-up the illegal foreigners own homeland (nation's) laws for Illegal's that enter their country. No contrasting or comparisons to give a fair and balanced viewpoint.

Basically, I think we all want social responsibility and accountability, that in the long run, would reduce the burden to taxpayers in general, reduce crime and keep unwanted illegal foreigners from coming here and doing another 9-11 or Dix Six on us.

Say no to amnesty.

I am surprised that no one has suggested using some of our latest weaponry against an invading enemy on our South Border. We have the technology to physically disable a person's motor function and thereby eliminating any gun play or other possibility of harm to our law enforcement and border patrol agents. I am sure that it could also be done remotely at strategic entry points, and along with fencing, help to deter crossing, or at least force them to another location for other means of apprehension. But, instead of doing any of the aforementioned, we will probably soon be seeing this being used on citizens who march in protest, if it hasn't already been done.

Sentor Kennedy, sent you an e-mail explaining immigration to me. He tried to give me a history lessen. He or someone in his staff needs the history lessen. My grandparents came from another country. They came into this country the right way, the correct way. They came thru the doors of america legally. I guess Kennedy does not know the difference between illegal immigraton and legal immigration.
He tried to make me think illegal and legal immigration are the same.
Also, If you are born to a illegal then that child is also illegal.
Save THE USA. Get all the sentors out of office that care more about a VOTE AND BIG BUSINESS THEN THE USA. Vote them out of office.

America's resources cannot support everyone on the planet - whether they are within our borders or without. Patriotic Americans must take a stand before America is consumed and annihilated by the invasion of people who have no interest in building up America and whose only interest is in taking from our country its jobs, resources, morality, spirituality, and history.

If we don't care about our country and our laws, why should anyone else? Congress (ie. Kennedy) is responsible for this mess and they want to fix it again? They will not fix anything, they will only make it worse. We need legislation to enforce the law already existing - prove to us they are serious FIRST. We are in an early stage of ANARCHY.

Our Congress, President and Senate have allowed our Borders left open, sent to Prison our Border Patrol for doing their Job, ignored the majority of informed Americans.
It is time for a big change, our leaders need to face impeachment for failing to follow our Constitution, allowing our Country to be invaded by Illegal Aliens and criminals!

The majority in this country know that we must secure our borders, but most think that is enough just to believe and talk the talk. On June 29, 2004, the U.S. Commissioner of Social Security and The Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute reached an agreement – ( http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d03993.pdf) - the so-called Totalization agreement. Yes, it took three years of wrangling with Freedom of Information Act by the TREA Senior Citizens League to obtain the document entitled “Social Security – Proposed Totalization Agreement with Mexico”.

Someone needs to demand changing the laws regarding illegals sneaking over here, having babies and the babies then are Americans citizens.

I am a WWII Veteran and I do not want anymore Illegal aliens in the country. I also want the ones here to be sent back to where they came from and have them come back leagaly. This way the ones that are selling drugs and gangs will not have to be put in prison.

The concerns about illegal immigration are valid and must be addressed immediately. Never before have the numbers been so enormous; never has the reliance on taxpayer-supported social services been so great; and never has pressure from businesses for cheap labor been so blatant. There is no such thing as cheap labor.

No to amnesty; yes to reforms in Mexico, one of the world's biggest exporters of poverty.

In the U.S., english is the offical language spoken in all public places. You either adopt to our culture/ language or you go back to Mexico or to any other foreign country that you may have left. Illegal mothers giving birth [babies] in America do not quailfy as U.S. citizen. When legal or illegal aliens come into America they must abide by our laws or they will be shipped back to the country they came from.

I am afraid that the Democratic-controlled House will adopt much of the Senate bill and send it to the president who will sign it into law. If that happens, it is the end of America as we know it. This bill does nothing to improve border security. It will be the largest amnesty bill in history. In 20 years there will be more than 60 million additional legal immigrants in the US, many of whom will not assimilate into American society. 60% of illegal immigrants are high school drop outs.The cost for increased social benefits (health care, education and welfare programs), additional criminal incarceration, tax-payer subsidized college tuition rates and Social Security benefits is estimated to be more than $6 trillion. More than 10 million skilled jobs are now taken by illegal aliens. This number will increase dramatically as family members are allowed to join the existing illegal immigrants in this country.

By the way, this bill will result in the end of the Republican party as 73% of Hispanics (the majority race of most illegal aliens) voted Democrat in the 2006 election. If the Republicans are dumb enough to endorse this bill then they deserve their fate! Send an email or call your elected representatives in Congress and tell them that you are outraged by their sell out of every traditional American principle.

I am reading a lot of angry comments hear. My question is how many of you that have written hear and are reading this have contacted your congressmen. I have called both, fax, written, and emailed both of my senators almost daily for the last week. I am being told that not that many people are calling in about this bill. If you have the time to write and read hear, then call your congressmen.

I joined the American Legion after I attended funerals of WWII vets and heard about their sacrifice, which was never spoken of in their happy lifetimes, and saw the salute to them from the Legion and other groups. I served but was spared that level of sacrifice by their loyal attitudes. The American Legion makes me proud, when they stand up for America and the spirit of patriotism. I feel indebted to those who keep the faith.
Yes, I want to preserve our national sovereignty by shuting down that border and enforcing our immigration laws. Blanket amnesty is a betrayal of America.

In your comment you elequantly stated that we as Americans should " impose and enforce employer sanctions. " Sorry to burst, your bubble. But, there are ALREADY laws across the nation that have severe penalties for hiring illegal aliens. What the government officials SHOULD do is ENFORCE the laws that are already on the books. ENFORCEMENT of current immigration laws, not envision new ones.

It is good to know there are organizations like “The American Legion” that are bringing to light the problems we face allowing illegal immigrants amnesty. How often are American citizens “rewarded” for breaking the law? There are so many State and Federal programs that are in jeopardy due to illegal immigration. We, the legal American citizens need to start holding our own marches & rallies to demand our rights. We are guaranted under OUR Constitution secure borders and protection from felons. We do not need anymore felons in our great country, we already have too many!

You folks are missing the most important parts of the illegal immigration issue, mainly because your vision is clouded by the bigotry,racism,xenophobia, and low class, Un American and Un Christian, Hillbilly philosophy.

The illegal immigrants are brave, hard working, Honorable people who have taken great risks to better themselves and their families, what could be more American. So, they've broken a few laws in the process, I believe our Country was founded by revolutionaries and law breakers not to mention risk takers.
I also believe that in total they haven't broken as many laws as the current criminal, illegal and immoral conservative administration, it's wealthy financiers, many of them foreign, and the non contributing, greedy, selfish, hate mongering, elitists who are using and abusing Americans in a manner not seen since the days of the Robber Barons and the Great Depression.

We need the immigrants for many reasons. We need them to work here legally, pay taxes, become consumers to keep the economy cooking,we especially need them to make the Social Security contributions to support us old people and lighten the load on our children and grandchildren, and we need them to be able to compete with foreign workers.

The most important reason for allowing them to stay and bringing in more is, of course, the fact that most of them are very religious people,they have a greater respect for humanity and other human beings than the conservatives, and they are very likely to vote for liberals which would mean the extinction of the greedy,selfish,intolerant, bigoted, racist,hate and war mongering Republican party.

Think of the possibilities;

an end to needless, losing failing, military efforts

and end to the sacrifice of our innocent children and grandchildren on the Republicans altar of greed,selfishness, cowardice,power madness, and corruption

a Country where all citizens are treated as having been created equal,where Americans don't have to choose between health care,food, gasoline, or medication

a country where jail sentences are the same for a wealthy young white woman as they are for a poor black woman

a country where the welfare of all is more important than the welfare of a few at the top

a country where the wealth that was made possible by the terrible sacrifices of people before us is shared by all and not only the most able, the most intelligent, the most dishonest,selfish,greedy,inhumane,immoral,

Did the Medal of Honor Winner in WW2 expect that his grandchildren would be treated properly as equal Americans, even though they might end up poor, or did he think that they should be tossed out on the streets to rot in homeless shelters, because otherwise they might be a burden on Americans who would rather throw away money in a casino

It appears that a large part of the American population has decayed, and the foul odor emanating from the conservatives, Republicans, and the rest of the greedy, non contributing, but lavishly benefiting America haters is going to make the rest of us ill. The only solution is a breath of fresh air, in a literal sense, new blood, new citizens, who can take us back to a time of hope,equality,compassion,Honor,justice, integrity,selflessness, and a higher level of humanity.

I am glad to see our American Legion stand up for what the law already requires. The only laws that need defined is that it should be a felony to harbor or assist illegal immigrants with food or shelter.

You want to just open the border. What are you a frikin communist? We can't save the world and there is much evidence and historical data as to why we must control immigration and secure the borders. You think you are more spiritual than us or comething. Lets see how spiritual you are when the Muslims invade and force their version of religion and government on you. And that they will if the US does not get a grip on this crisis. Democrates are not so great. I remember them raising taxes on particular manufactured goods that destroyed enitire industries because no one could afford the higher taxed price. GET REAL!!!

Those of you complaining about the coming Muslim victory and imposition of Sharia law upon America when it becomes part of the caliphate are strangely silent about the deliberate mistreatment of our current wounded heroes.
I suspect you AL geezers hold these current American soldiers in the same degree of contempt as the Vietnam veterans. When are you bigots going to publicly blame them for the "defeat" and call them losers, cowards, and traitors as you did to the returning troops 30, 35 years ago?

Okay I agree with everyone who has left a comment on VISION. Maybe if congress made it easier for the ones who deserve it to become U.S. citizens. If they want to come to this country, then mexicans should do it legaly. But we should give the ability to those who really should have citizenship.
