American Legion Reaffirms Support for War on Terror

 Resolution 169 Booklet

Nearly 6,000 delegates unanimously re-affirmed The American Legion’s support for the war on terrorism during the organization’s 89th National Convention in Reno, Nevada.

“We must continue to stand by the president and advocate for adequate funding for our troops that is not contingent on a set date for troop withdrawal,” said National Commander Paul A. Morin. “Our support of Resolution 169 is unwavering.”

Resolution 169 was first passed at The American Legion’s 87th National Convention in Honolulu and re-affirmed last year in Salt Lake City. It resolves that The American Legion urges all Americans and freedom-loving people stand united in their support of the global war on terrorism and united in their support of the troops. It further resolves that national commander of The American Legion disseminate accurate information to ensure the united support of the American people.

The American Legion, which by its own constitution is nonpartisan, urges that the people support both the president who sent the troops to war and Congress, which authorized the action.

Several speakers at The American Legion National Convention pointed out that the current strategy in Iraq appears to be working. “Tired of the indiscriminate violence and turned off by al-Qaeda’s Taliban-like ideology, many shieks, tribes and local citizens are rejecting al-Qaeda,” said Gen. David Petraeus, who addressed the convention from a videotape produced in Iraq. He added that troops have been aided enormously by “the increasing assistance of everyday Iraqis.”

The American Legion, which includes 700,000 Vietnam War veterans as its members, is committed to making sure that America never again mistreats or disrespects its war veterans. Resolution 169 points out that “because of the very nature of war, the warrior can not be separated from the war itself.”

Resolution 169 also points out that the United States was “suddenly and without provocation, attacked by terrorists on September 11, 2001.” It adds, “The global war on terrorism is a just war, aimed at protecting the very foundations of freedom and freedom-loving people everywhere.”

The American Legion is producing a Resolution 169 booklet that explains the United States mission in Iraq and why it is a crucial front in the War on Terrorism. It includes a history of terrorist attacks against the United States that started long before the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The American Legion expects to release it by Sept. 11.

The American Legion was founded in 1919 on the four pillars of a strong national security, veterans affairs, Americanism, and patriotic youth programs. The Legion’s 2.7 million wartime veterans work for the betterment of their communities through more than 14,000 posts across the nation.

This is nonsense. Currently well over 500,000 of our nation's sons and daughters including myself as seeking prompt and effectiuve medical care that has been denied, delayed, and ineffective. The invasion of Iraq that was planned during the 1990's has nothing to do with the events of 9-11. Sadly the official story of 9-11 bears little relationship to the actual events. Al one has to do is go to psge 313 of the official 9-11 commission report look at the photgraph of the Pentagon then ask yourself if this photograph supports the official story of an impact of an aircraft on the Pentagon. SIMPLY IT PROVES NO AIRCRAFT EVER HIT THE PENTASGON. I can only wonder when the members of the Legion will wake up?

I am still amazed that there are individuals out there that believe 9-11 to be some sort of conspiracy. I think that there were acft parts found in the debris. The only problem with the US plan for Iraq was there wasn't one for the event of winning the war. Chaos ensues in a vacuum of planning and that is what we are reaping. To regain is a lot harder than to initiate.

With respect to Mr. Pritcard there is no photographic or video evidence of any aircraft debris from Boeing 757 within the Pentagon nor on the surrounding terrain after the incident. The photograph on page 313 of the 9-11 Commission report does not show any Boeing 757 wreckage. All other available photographs and video do not show any 757 wreckage either. If you look at the photograph on page 313 carefully you will see that there is no indication of any engines impact or engine debris, wing impact, tail section impact, or any portions of the aircraft fuselage on the ground in front of or within the collapsed debris of the Pentagon. But more important there is no indication of a massive fire nor wall destruction. Books, computers, desks, and walls to the left side- north side of the impact zone are not burned or even destroyed but are intact. Of course it would be a neat trick to fly a 757 between or even over the the light poles that are still standing and then hit the Pentagon at about 14 feet above the ground while moving at over 500 miles per hour. One of my friends- Army colleagues who was inside less than 30 feet from the impact hole told me they were rescued out through the hole before the wall collapsed at about 10:15 am and they did not see any aircraft wreckage. Maybe Mr. Pritcard can provide photographs and video of a Boeing 757 aircraft wreckage outside of and within the Pentagon. Either way there is absolutely no justification for the invasion and occupation of Iraq based on plans developed during the 1990's and then resurrected and implemented as stated by General Tommy Franks on page 336 of the 9-11 Commission report. Today the actual casualty count is staggering (http://www1.va.gov/rac-gwvi/docs/GWVIS_May2007.pdf)while those of us who are wounded, injured, and ill must fight for medical care we earned in combat. Sadly that medical care has been delayed, denied, and ineffective. Sadly very few organizations to include the members of the American Legion will do much to help us.
