Disaster Guide Wins Hermes Award

The American Legion’s guide, “Disaster Preparedness and Response for American Legion Posts” has won a platinum award in the Hermes Award competition. This award honors creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging technology. Additionally, The American Legion Veterans Day speech won a gold award and The American Legion’s Vision blog won an honorable mention in the competition.

Over the years, Legionnaires have continued to serve America, reaching out to veterans and their families and conducting programs for the betterment of our communities.

Since the attacks of September 11, 2001, our world has changed. Once again Legionnaires are being called upon to apply their skills, commitment and patriotism to help our communities become prepared to meet any contingency, natural or man-made.

As a partner with Homeland Security, Legionnaires can step to the forefront in their communities as advocates of national security and preparedness. There are many opportunities for a post’s participation. The guide provides a wide-range list of possible areas of involvement on the post level. You can download a copy of the guide here.

The American Legion has also joined with Homeland Security to jointly promote the fifth annual National Preparedness month this coming September and encourages Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
