Unveiling a redesigned website to improve navigation for posts and departments.

Responding to market research from members and non-members alike, The American Legion National Headquarters has redesigned its website. The new format strives to make it easier for visitors to find the information they are looking for and allows posts, districts and departments the ability to easily embed and share national videos.

The new home page for legion.org includes “widgets” – or special menus that provide access to important “Find it Quick” features that help visitors locate a post, a service officer or learn about military reunions. Another widget on the landing page offers visitors answers to the question, “How can the Legion help?” Within that menu is information about VA claims assistance, education, careers and personal finance.

The site will continue to produce timely news stories, photos and videos, but at the same time attempt to deliver a stronger message about what the Legion is doing, and does on a regular basis, to help America’s veterans, their families and communities.

Relevant articles, photos and videos from recent years have been moved from the former site. Videos on the new site are now simultaneously loaded onto The American Legion’s Youtube channel for easy viewing. Pages with videos also now contain an embedding code that makes it easy for local posts, districts and departments to use on their websites.

Members and non-members who have had trouble in the past navigating the site will find new and more clearly indexed information about programs and services. The horizontal navigation bar is simplified in the new version as well.

New editorial features include “A Moment in Time,” which will offer a different aspect of the Legion and military history on a regular basis. The American Legion national calendar has also been carefully reworked.

Some comments on legion.org, the Legion’s Facebook presence, Legiontown and the Burnpit will be selected for the landing page so the words of the members will have an place among the stories, photos and videos posted by national staff. The new landing page will also highlight excerpts from “In Your Own Words,” a new interactive online feature for visitors to submit their own creative work – books, poetry, songs and more.

I don't like the new format. I can't find the things that were easy to find. The Poll Question shows four responses. Were these made prior to the changes? There doesn't seem to be any poll question area available to respond. I suppose in a few months I'll figure the new set up out. Hopefully, it won't be changed immediately following that.

Change is good for some and not so good for others. I just will have to do the best I can for a computer illiterate.
