Denise Williams, assistant director for Health Policy is attending the Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans. The purpose of the committee is to review the post-war readjustment needs of combat veterans and evaluate the availability and effectiveness of VA programs to meet these needs.

Attending Small Business Administration symposium

Members of the Legion’s Economic Division are attending a symposium conducted by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The all-day “Small Business Jobs Act Listening Tour” event is billed by the SBA as “a terrific opportunity” for small businesses to get the latest information on the recently enacted Small Business Jobs Act directly from senior SBA executives. The Act, signed last September by President Obama, enhances lending and provides new tax cuts to small businesses, including veteran-owned enterprises.

Participating in an examination of PTS, conducted by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies in D.C.

The Legion’s National Security/Foreign Relations division director, Barry Searle, is participating in an in-depth examination of PTS (post traumatic stress) today. A day-long session, conducted by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies in Washington, D.C., is focusing on the VA’s evaluation and counseling of service members and military families affected by PTS, particularly those within the National Guard population.

Mailing letters to the 30 finalists who will compete in the Shooting Sports Air Rifle National Championships.

Letters are being mailed to the top 15 Sporter and 15 Precision category national finalists inviting them to compete in The American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Air Rifle National Championships in August 2011 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
