Peter Gaytan – executive director of the Legion’s D.C. office – is speaking to the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs. Gaytan’s address will cover state efforts to address the VA claims backlog, delays in access to care at different VA medical centers nationwide and new hospital construction delays.
The Legion’s deputy Legislative director, Ian DePlanque, and Zachary Hearn, deputy director for benefits, are attending a meeting held by the Disabled American Veterans regarding proposed regulation changes to the veterans’ disability claims process.

The American Legion's System Worth Saving Task Force is conducting a town hall meeting tonight to discuss the quality of health care veterans receive at the Dallas VA Medical Center. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 511, 3607 South R L Thornton Freeway, Dallas.
Legion staff is meeting with staff from the office of Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ark., to discuss proposed legislation prohibiting the closure of commissaries and base exchanges, as well as to express opposition to proposed budget cuts aimed at the commissary system.
Staff from the Legion’s Veterans Affairs & Rebabiliation, and Legislative divisions are members with the House Committee on Appropriations. The committee is seeking feedback on three Departments of Veterans Affairs’ programs: Project HERO (Health Effectiveness through Resource Optimization), Project ARCH (Access Received Closer to Home) and PC3 (Patient-Centered Community Care).
