Staff from the Legion’s Veterans Employment & Education Division is attending Microsoft’s Conversation on Veterans: Veterans Employment and Training Panel Discussion. This event will discuss how can the private sector best help support veterans as they successfully transition from the military to civilian employment. In November 2013, Microsoft announced a new program to provide software development training and testing to U.S. active-duty members transitioning out of their military careers.

Meeting with House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller

Peter Gaytan – executive director of the Legion’s D.C. office – is meeting with Rep. Jeff Miller, chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Gaytan and Miller will discuss patients deaths in Department of Veterans Affairs’ facilities in Georgia and South Carolina, communication issues within VA, and cost overruns and delays with VA construction projects.

Veterans Employment & Education Division are attending the Department of Labor’s National Symposium Veterans’ Employment in Construction. This event will bring together the construction industry, government leaders, and education professionals to address the employment challenges and opportunities of America’s transitioning servicemembers and veterans. As construction jobs grow over the next decade, America’s veterans can help fill the need for the skilled workers. Speakers will include First Lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez.
