Staff from the Legion’s Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Division is at VA Central Office’s Mental Health Operations to discuss progress on VA hiring the 1600 new positions authorized in 2012, and as well as to receive an update on current programs and initiatives.

Operation Comfort Warriors is the theme of The American Legion’s float in the 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis as part of the Indianapolis 500 race festivities. Six men and women from the U.S. Armed Forces recently returning from deployment and National Commander James E. Koutz are honored guests riding on the float.
The Legion’s System Worth Saving Task Force is making a follow-up visit to the Fort Wayne (Ind.) VA Medical Center. The task force gave the center a list of recommendations during a December 2012 visit. During the visit they will interview administrative staff, medical personnel and patients to evaluate the quality of health care at the facility.
The Legion will attend three congressional hearings today: the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Social Security on the entitlement programs overhaul; the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Programs regarding improving federal health care in rural America; and the House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Readiness markup of the fiscal 2014 Defense Authorization.
