Reviewing Fully Developed Claims at VA Regional Office in Oakland, Calif.

American Legion appeals representative Zack Hearn is at the VA Regional Office in Oakland Calif. this week as part of a team reviewing 50 randomly selected Fully Developed Claim files to gauge accuracy and timeliness of adjudication. Claims that are fully developed – that is, with all needed information initially supplied to VA processors rather than piece meal – streamlines the adjudication process significantly. The Legion is working with VA to develop and fine tune an FDC protocol to aid veterans in obtaining their earned benefits promptly.

Sending out invitations to Junior Shooting Sports finalists

Invitations to the 23rd American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Air Rifle National Championships are being sent to the top 15 athletes of each of the sporter and precision categories from the over 1,500 athletes who entered the 2013 American Legion Junior Shooting Sports national postal tournament. The championship competition will be held Aug. 6-11 at the USA Shooting facility on the campus of the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Identifying best practices for Fully Developed Claims program at VA Regional Office in Nashville, Tenn.

Staff of the Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Division are visiting the VA’s regional office in Nashville to identify best practices for VA’s Fully Developed Claims (FDC) program and for reducing the disability claims backlog. VA has placed more emphasis on FDCs, since they move through the claims process much faster than traditional claims.
