Raising funds on the Legacy Run for college educations of children whose military parents were killed after 9/11.

The American Legion Legacy Run is crossing the heartland en route to Milwaukee and the 92nd National Convention. The 1,200-mile ride raises funds for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, which provides college education money for the children of those who have given their lives in uniform since 9/11. The Run winds up Thursday in Milwaukee.

D.C. executive director attending Fisher House Cornerstone dedication

Peter Gaytan, executive director of The American Legion's Washington office, is attending the dedication of the Fisher House Cornerstone in honor of former senator and presidential candidate Robert J. Dole. During World War II, Dole served with the 10th Mountain Division, receiving a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

Film from 1947 National Convention is being preserved at Natl. HQ

An 11-minute, 8mm film of The American Legion parade at its 1947 National Convention in New York City is being transferred to digital format. The film and its digital copy will be preserved at American Legion National Headquarters.

Serving on Veterans Guest Internet Access committee

The American Legion’s Deputy Director for Health Care, Jacob B. Gadd, and National Field Service Representative, James Woodson, are and serving as committee members of the Veterans Guest Internet Access workgroup and participating in the kick-off teleconference today. The workgroup will assist the Veterans Health Administration in delivering public Internet access to VA patients and their families.

Met with Prudential executives

Peter Gaytan, executive director of the Legion's Washington office, met with a vice president from Prudential to discuss recent allegations that certain insurance companies have been profiting off the families of fallen heroes by urging beneficiaries to accept death benefits in delayed, piecemeal fashion.
