Verna Jones, director of the Legion’s Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Division, is testifying before the House Veterans' Affairs Committee’s Health Subcommittee. She is sharing the Legion’s views on preventing incidents of sexual abuse and assault at VA facilities.
The Legion is monitoring a Senate subcommittee hearing today on pending legislation regarding so-called critical minerals and materials. These are minerals and materials deemed vital to the building and maintenance of technologies and devices important to national security and clean energy. By resolution, the Legion supports the domestic discovery, development and utilization of these substances.
Jeff Steele, assistant director of the Legion’s Legislative Division, is testifying on Capitol Hill today. He is appearing before a Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee to communicate the Legion’s support of a number of bills. Among them is a measure to increase penalties against financial institutions that violate rules designed to protect military families against home foreclosures. Another – an omnibus bill – is designed to help returning warriors find employment and addresses veteran homelessness.
As the Senate Foreign Relations Committee meets today, the Legion will be in attendance. The committee is discussing the status of al Qaeda, the Taliban and other extremist groups. Al Qaeda’s future as it relates to U.S. interests is also being considered by the House Foreign Affairs Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade subcommittee. The Legion is monitoring that meeting as well.
