VA to host live virtual event on women veteran issues

On June 30 at 3 p.m., the Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a Veterans Experience Live in support of women veterans. The live Q&A will include participation from American Legion Auxiliary National President Nicole Clapp and representatives from the Center for Women Veterans, Women’s Mental Health, Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, VA and more.

These experts will answer questions to critical topics for the fastest growing veteran demographic, including health, benefits, appeals, employment efforts, caregiver support, mental health, suicide prevention, memorial services and survivor assistance. The Q&A will happen here, where you can ask a question in the thread.

American Legion Resolution 147 addresses that women veterans are the fastest growing demographic to serve in the military and to enroll in the VA health-care system. Since 2000, the number of women veterans receiving VA healthcare has more than doubled and that number is expected to increase as more women veterans become eligible for VA care. The resolution calls on VA to ensure the needs of “current and future women veteran populations are met” and that women veterans are not an afterthought of the VA system.
