I Still Served in the American Legion
By Hubert E Cormier, II

At one point in my life, I felt the need to be serving,
To help those who were more deserving.
To help those who were sent to face the fear,
For I was a lucky one, I was sent here.
In Katy, Texas, a quiet little town,
I was so happy at what I had found
An organization Steeped in history for doing good,
One worth joining, I would do all that I could.
Invited to join this American Legend Post,
I decided to join and do my utmost.
With Butch and Miss Lynn standing by our side,
We could give back to those who had been denied.
Attacking each problem with zeal and emotion,
Believing that failure was not an option.
To those who came back disabled, we won't forget,
Legion member or not you are family, you are a Vet.
To fight for those families everyday,
Who has a member that is M.I.A.
To those who feel they have gone unheard,
Yes, we are listening to your every word.
To honor those who answered that final call,
The names of those chiseled into that Black Wall.
And on that day when you are laid to rest,
We will honor you for you are this Nation's best.
And when the time comes for my final curtain,
I will answer from my heart, I am certain,
That with every ounce of pride from my very core,
I still served in the American legion, Post one sixty-four.
