Americanism awards for 2020 presented

The American Legion National Americanism Commission met Oct. 3 for its annual Fall Meetings. The commission announced recipients for three Americanism awards.

Frank N. Belgrano, Jr. Trophy. In honor of Past National Commander Frank N. Belgrano Jr., this award is presented annually to the department that has rendered the most outstanding support during the period Aug. 1-July 31 to Boy Scouts of America. The award is based on the number of troops organized, strength of existing troops and general welfare of the Scout movement under American Legion sponsorship within the department based on written reports with substantiating evidence.

The 2020 recipient is the American Legion Department of Utah.

Daniel J. O’Connor Americanism Trophy. In honor of Daniel J. O'Connor, National Americanism Commission chairman from 1962-1983 and chairman emeritus from 1984-2004, the award is presented annually to the department attaining the greatest number of percentage points derived from the activities reported on the Consolidated Post Report form and submits the best narrative statement supporting the claim of points shown.

The 2020 recipient is the American Legion Department of Virginia.

Ralph T. O’Neil Education Trophy. In honor of Past National Commander Ralph T. O'Neil, this award is presented annually to that department, in the United States, that shows the greatest Americanism activity in use of The American Legion School Medal Awards.

The 2020 recipient is the American Legion Department of Connecticut.
