American Legion posts can encourage their members to participate in the 100 Miles for Hope campaign and, at the same time, hold one of their standard fundraisers. It could be anything from passing a hat to a BBQ cookout to a drive-through meal pickup.

To encourage participation among members, display this flyer at your post, community center or elsewhere.

For example, a Legion Riders chapter could put together a 100-mile ride, return to the post where a fundraiser meal is being held, whether it is a meal at the post itself or a pickup due to social distancing protocol. Either way, a post would be able to provide a meal(s) for others with the proceeds from their donation going toward V&CF or a fundraiser of the post’s choosing.

Another way for the entire post to get involved is to hold a special event to honor their members upon completion of their 100 miles. And using Veterans Day at the post as a “finish line” would be a great way for post members and other participants to finish their 100 miles and then celebrate with each other. A post could even host a challenge to see who can walk the most miles in the time period and then honor that person.

There are several built-in dates when American Legion posts can host their own events and hold a fundraiser. For example:

• Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-7.

• Patriot Day, Sept. 11

• Air Force Birthday, Sept. 11

• American Legion Day, Sept. 16

• Navy Birthday, Oct. 13

• Veterans Day, Nov. 11
