The countdown to the 2012 American Legion Baseball World Series is in full swing with the regional tournaments under way. And once the gates open to Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C., on Aug. 17, the eight baseball teams advancing to the World Series will be greeted with southern hospitality, an array of activities and pre-game ceremonies. Meanwhile, this year’s Legion World Series is dedicated to the fallen four North Carolina National Guard 145th Airlift Wing servicemen who perished in July while fighting the wildfires in South Dakota. The men were Lt. Col. Paul K. Mikeal, Maj. Ryan S. David, Maj. Joseph McCormick and Sgt. Robert Cannon.
