ALWS champs headed to MLB World Series

American Legion World Series champions Chapin-Newberry (S.C.) Post 193 will travel to Kansas City, Mo., this week for the Major League Baseball World Series.

Players and coaches from Post 193 will attend Games 1 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets. Both teams feature American Legion Baseball alumni, including Royals left-fielder Alex Gordon and Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom. The team also will visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and enjoy some Kansas City barbecue.

Chapin-Newberry, South Carolina's first ALWS titlist since 1936, dominated the championship game, defeating Retif Oil (New Orleans) 9-2. Chapin-Newberry finished the season 32-1.
