ALWS: Championship Tuesday to feature a double-header

Once again, rain left its mark on Veteran’s Field at Keeter Stadium.

After a fantastic first game and an electric start to the nightcap Monday, the skies opened up once again forcing the suspension of play in the second semifinal of the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C.

This is the second suspended game in a tournament that has featured a few weather-related delays. Games were already shortened to seven innings due to weather.

Thanks to the work of the grounds crew and help from a helicopter offered by Shelby resident Dr. Stephen Jones, the field was playable entering Monday’s semifinal.

What we do know is that Henderson, Nev., Post 40, on the heels of a 7-3 victory in extra innings over Bryant, Ark., Post 298, will compete in the championship game, live on ESPNU at 7 p.m.

Their opponent will be determined at 4 p.m., after the resumption of the contest between Randolph County, N.C., Post 45 or Omaha, Neb., Post 1.

The game will resume in the bottom of the first inning with Nebraska leading 2-1.
