National Commander Troiola to Testify Before Congress on Legion Legislative Priorities

American Legion National Commander Vincent J. "Jim" Troiola will present the Legion's legislative priorities to a joint session of the Senate and House Committees on Veterans’ Affairs. Department Service Officers (DSO) School

DSO School is virtual. The American Legion conducts two Department Service Officer School sessions each year. DSO School is geared for the professional accredited American Legion representative at the regional office, county and state levels. Conduct Buddy Checks

As a way to reach out to members and former members who may need help, the National Executive Committee passed Resolution 18 during Spring Meetings in May 2019. The resolution calls for Buddy Checks to be conducted Legion-wide on the weeks of The American Legion’s birthday, March 15, and Veterans Day.

Big Twelve Competition

The American Legion’s Big Twelve Competition recognizes departments that meet or exceed their pledged membership goal percentage by the March 90% target date. The department in each category that has pledged the highest percentage and meets this goal receives the award. The percentage does not include members gained through DMS.

The winner in each category will be reimbursed for computer equipment purchases of up to $2,000. Runners-up in each category will be reimbursed for computer equipment purchases of up to $1,000.

Race to the Top Competition End Date

Race to the Top competition is divided into five categories based on the membership of the district without regard to geographic locations. District commanders will compete in each of the following categories based on final membership year totals, and a top district commander for the national award will be selected from each of the five categories. Post ribbons will also be awarded to each top district commander for all posts in those districts. Second and third place awards will also be presented in each category.
