Legion post hosting entrepreneurship workshop May 11-12

The American Legion Department of New Jersey, the Small Business Administration (SBA) and Veterans Business Outreach Centers are teaming up to conduct a two-day Boots to Business Reboot workshop that will provide entrepreneurship training for veterans who want to start, purchase or grow their own business.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 11-12 at Legion Post 170, 33 W. Passaic St., Rochelle Park, N.J. It’s the first such workshop taking place in a Legion department; previous Boots to Business Reboot workshops took place during the American Legion National Convention in Baltimore in 2015 and in Charlotte, N.C., in 2014.

“I attended the workshop in Baltimore and caught the bug,” said Bob Looby, the Department of New Jersey’s Employment and Education Committee chairman. “I thought it was a natural transition from our job fairs to veterans looking for employment from a different angle. It goes very well with the education and employment programs we’re already doing in the Department of New Jersey.”

Looby said the department carefully chose the location for the workshop. “We thought that being in northern New Jersey, it’s a very populated area and close to New York,” he said. “Post 170’s commander, Bob Salvini, is our department membership chairman and a great businessman. So it made sense to use Post 170. And now we’ve got 20-25 other posts in line across the state to serve as future locations.”

Those interested in attending must register online by April 27. Click here to register.
