Veteran, military job fair set for national convention

The American Legion again is teaming up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes program to conduct an employment workshop and hiring fair for veterans, military personnel and their spouses during the national convention in Cincinnati.

The events are scheduled for Aug. 30 in the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, 35 W. 5th St. To register for the hiring fair workshop or job fair, click here.

An employment workshop led by human resources and workforce professionals will cover a variety of topics, including résumé building, networking and interview tips, while taking into account the job seeker's military background and lifestyle. Hiring Our Heroes digital tools are also integrated into the workshop curriculum. Immediately following the workshop, volunteer career coaches will help attendees develop an elevator pitch, participate in a mock interview, and create a more effective résumé.

Employers are invited to attend a Brunch & Learn sponsored by USAA prior to the hiring fair. Trainers will provide insight on how to brand companies as military friendly, how to find the right veteran talent, and how to keep them engaged in the workforce. Brunch will be served - free for employers, recruiters and HR professionals.

Following the brunch, a job fair with dozens of national and local companies and agencies will allow attendees to meet face to face with prospective employers.

The workshop is from 9 a.m.-noon, the brunch from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., and the job fair from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. A networking lunch for job seekers is scheduled for noon-1 p.m.
