Child Welfare Foundation presents 2019-2020 awards

Awards are presented annually during The American Legion’s national convention for outstanding support of the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. Donations from departments and detachments help the Child Welfare Foundation provide grants to support programs and activities that benefit the welfare of children and youth.

Recipients are announced during national convention, which was canceled for health and safety surrounding the ongoing pandemic. The following are the CWF award recipients for 2019-2020.

Garland D. Murphy Jr. Award. This award is presented to the most active department in the nation, based on actual contributions received during a contribution year. One department from each organization (The American Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion and Eight & Forty) is recognized.

Recipients

• The American Legion – Department of California

• Sons of The American Legion – Detachment of Pennsylvania

• American Legion Auxiliary – Department of Florida

• Eight & Forty – Departmental de Arizona

U.S. “Udie” Grant Legacy Award. This award is presented to the top department nationally, based on combined total contributions of The American Legion, Auxiliary, Sons and Eight & Forty during a contribution year.

Recipient

• Department of Florida

Meritorious Achievement Award. This award is presented to the top department in each organization (The American Legion, Auxiliary, Sons and Eight & Forty) that experience the highest increase in per capita giving in a contribution year.

Recipients

• The American Legion – Department of Wyoming

• Sons of The American Legion – Detachment of Hawaii

• American Legion Auxiliary – Department of Ohio

• Eight & Forty – Departmental de Louisiana

Excellence Award. Recipients of this award must be one of 10 departments with the highest per capita contribution average for the contribution year within their respective organization.
